TREASURER
Primary Purpose
To assure pack remains financially sound while providing a program beneficial to all scouts wishing to participate.
Position Description
Help the pack committee and Cubmaster establish a sound financial program for the pack with an annual pack budget plan.
Ongoing review to ensure pack finances are sound.
Collects payments from pack members.
Open or maintain a bank account in the pack's name and arrange for all transactions to be signed by any two: Cubmaster, chair, secretary, or treasurer.
Signer on the pack checking account.
Keeps up-to-date financial records.
Prepares and presents financial report to pack committee at regular pack committee meetings.
Reports to the chartered organization as often as they desire on the financial condition of the pack.
Approve all budget expenditures. Check all disbursements against budget allowances. Processes and writes checks for approved payments and reimbursements. The pack committee chair should approve bills before payment.
Makes bank deposits.
Advises pack committee on financial matters.
Be responsible for thrift training within the pack. Encourage each den leader to explain the pack financial plan to each scout and their family, so that scouts will accept responsibility for paying dues and parents will be alert for opportunities for scouts to earn dues money and develop habits of thrift.
On request of den leaders, sympathetically counsel with a scout who does not pay dues, determine the reason, and encourage regular payment. If the scout is unable to pay, work out a plan with the Cubmaster and pack committee so the scout can earn dues and/or take advantage of scholarships.
Assists Pack Committee Chair and/or Cubmaster in preparing the annual budget.
Desired Skills & Requirements
Basic financial knowledge.
Organized, detail oriented.
Discreet; able to maintain private/sensitive information.
Basic knowledge of spreadsheets.
Regularly attends monthly pack committee meetings.
Supports the policies of the BSA.
Will complete Youth Protection Training before starting in the position.
Will complete online training for "Pack Committee (MC)" within 30 days of registering.
Estimated hours per week, average:
1-3, including meeting time
2-4 hours in monthly meetings August-May
2-4 hours monthly on bookkeeping, data entry, and report running
2-3 hours closing out year
4-8 hours for each fundraiser
Length of Commitment: Year-round, 1-2 years in role plus 1 year of mentoring replacement
Leader uniform required: No but encouraged.
